We are doing something cool this year!  Each of the girls has a devotional book that Daddy reads with them.   We don’t put any pressure or stress on this activity; they  just do it as they can, either at Daddy’s initiation or theirs.  And it really thrills me as the mom! If I accomplish nothing else as a mother, I want to encourage our daughters to love and know Jesus and to have a very close relationship with both their earthly and their heavenly fathers!

Kay, our eldest, is loving Indescribable, by Louis Giglio.  It includes 100 devotions about God and science and definitely inspires her to be amazed by the great Creator, His creation and His love for HER!  Whether or not your kiddo is interested in science, he or she is sure to love this fascinating devotional.

 Abigail is almost 7 and enjoys reading 100 Devotions for Daddy and Me, which, unfortunately, seems to no longer be available for purchase.  (Any devotional for girls will do, when read in the lap of her daddy!).   I love what Tom wrote to her on the title page:

You are a special little girl, who will grow up to be a special big girl. In these early years of yours, you and I have will have special times together and create special memories.  God bless us both.  I love you – Daddy

Elizabeth is 5 1/2 and LOVES her morning devotions with Daddy.  There are few things I love to hear more than her little feet padding down the hallway to say, “Daddy, do devotions with me!”  They are reading through Tell Me More Devotional (365 Devotions for Young Girls), which is available from Lifeway.com.

We do SO many things wrong as parents, but these devotional times with Daddy are one of the right things.  It’s not every day or always even every week, but each time is special when they snuggle up in his lap and have those few moments of special time to talk about what matters most.

Studies have shown time and time again, and I cannot emphasize enough, how CRUCIAL a positive father/daughter interaction is in the shaping and maturing of a young lady!   You can learn so much more about that in Dr. James Dobson’s book, Bringing Up Girls, which my husband is currently reading through. In the future, I’m going to buy him another book that I know will be inspiring and outstanding:  Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters by Dr. Meg Meeker.  I actually can hardly wait to get that one because I want to read it too.  (I’m kind of a book-a-holic).

I know without a shadow of a doubt that a close, loving, affectionate, communicative relationship between dads and daughters is vital to our girls growing up to be happy, healthy, wise and confident!
